Get a first insight into one of the most fascinating water sports by taking this 4.5-hour surfing class in Fuerteventura!

On the beach, your surf instructor will explain the currents and give you important safety tips for handling the surfboard. After a short warm-up training, there are easy-to-understand dry runs for the correct position on the surfboard. After you have familiarised yourself a bit with the waves, the surf instructor will explain to you how to stand up on the surfboard – the “Take Off”. The surf instructor is in the water with you all the time and helps you choose the right wave. He gives the board a gentle push to help you glide into the waves. Of course, he will give you tips and feedback on how to improve your surfing technique.

Oasis Wildlife is home to a huge variety of birds, reptiles and African animals, living as close to their natural habitat as possible. There's a successful breeding programme here and recent arrivals include giraffes, sea lions and hippos. Get up close to many of them at the sea lion, reptile and birds of prey shows. In between shows, you can come eye-to-eye with the giraffes on the viewing platform, laugh at the antics of the cheeky chimps, admire the elephants and take pictures of the meerkats, otters, zebras and hippos – the list is endless. There is also an optional 25-minute camel ride available, adding adventure and laughs along the way, aswell as a 20-minute educational lemur experience, learning all about these beautiful, endangered primates. Fuerteventura is that rare gem – there's plenty to do and see but in laid-back and uncrowded surrounds. This daytrip to the centre of the island will explore the historic town of Betancuria and the fishing village of Ajuy and take in attractions such as an aloe vera plantation and a farm.Setting off in a comfortable minibus, your first stop is the aloe vera plantation. Next up is the polka-dotted Moorish-influenced lighthouse overlooking Las Playitas beach. Then, in Ajuy, you can check out the view from the chalk cliffs overlooking the black beach and the fishing boats.Later, a scenic drive through the mountains will take you to the whitewashed colonial town of Betancuria. See St Mary's church, whose simple exterior belies its richly decorated interior. There'll be a cheese-tasting session at a nearby goat farm, before you round off the day with a visit to the cheese museum in Antigua.

And on this easygoing walking tour, you'll get to see the peninsula in all of its glory. The Natural Park of Jandia, Risco del Paso and Morro Jable are all on the agenda, as well as free time for swimming, taking in the views and exploring the dunes. You'll start in Jandia Natural Park. This huge reserve covers most of the island's southerly tip, encompassing mountains, rocky coasts, sand dunes and undeveloped wilderness – it's a haven for nature-lovers. Then, it's on to Sotavento, where crystal-clear waters lap up against the soft, golden stretch of sand.
