Det är hamnen i Hamburg, den största hamnen i Tyskland, även ömt kallad "Porten till världen". Datumet för grundandet - 7 maj 1189 - representerar stadens största årsjubileum.
Mer än 100 mil från Nordsjön ligger hamnen i ett strategiskt läge där två floder, Alster och Bille, ansluter sig till Elben - ligger en av de viktigaste tyska handelsvägarna som korsar hela landet. Ett fint nätverk av stora och små kanaler, så kallade "Fleeten", korsar staden och ger sådana kvarter som det historiska Speicherstadt -distriktet och det moderna HafenCity, med den världsberömda Elbe Philharmonic, en makalös charm.
