Fuerteventura is een zeldzaam juweel: er is van alles te zien en te doen, en toch is de omgeving er relaxed en rustig. Op deze dagtocht naar het midden van het eiland ontdek je het historische Betancuria en het vissersdorp Ajuy. Ook bezoek je een aloë vera plantage en een boerderij.

Met een comfortabele minibus ga je op pad. De eerste stop? De aloë vera plantage. Om daarna bij de gestippelde Moorse vuurtoren uit te kijken over het strand van Playitas. In Ajuy sta je versteld van het uitzicht vanaf de krijtrotsen op het zwarte strand en de vissersboten.

Een mooie tocht door de bergen brengt je naar het witgekalkte koloniale dorp Betancuria. Hier bekijk je de Santa Mariakerk waarvan de buitenkant je niet doet vermoeden dat het er van binnen zo mooi uitziet. Om de hoek ligt een geitenboerderij. Je proeft de kazen en sluit je dag af met een bezoek aan het kaasmuseum in Antigua.

We had a great day. It gave us a really good sense of the island as a whole. The guide was informative and knowledgeable. The stop off points were really interesting and the variety was good. It would be better to have longer in beautiful Betancuria and cut the museum. It is very small & adds little

Marcus was a fantastic guide very informative enjoyed the Aloe Farm, Lighthouse, Cheese Factory & villages. Sea caves not open but able to climb up to stunning views. Would have been nice to spend a little longer in the village Betancuria but overall a brilliant trip would recommend to others

A good chance to see more of the island. Variety of stops showing different aspects of Fuerteventura. Quite a lot of time making transitions between sites along remarkable roads.

A great experiance to show the island history and places. Also, to show the animals that made the island and how people lived. The plants that made the island income with aloe vera. To have an old-style island lunch with wine.

Fernando, one of our insider guides, says ‘Every year, on the third Saturday of September, thousands of islanders dressed in traditional Canarian costume pilgrimage through the gorge to worship Fuerteventura's patron saint.'Discover off the beaten track parts of Fuerteventura as you embark on foot, crisscrossing valleys from the hamlet of Vega de Rio Palmas to the hermitage of Las Peñitas. There'll be plenty of photo stops and the chance to rest in the shade under one of the many date trees which dot the route. Thanks to the surrounding sea of green vegetation and otherworldly rock formations, locals refer to the area as the ‘Oasis of Fuerteventura'. Film fans, though, can spot it in one of the scenes from the Marvel movie, The Eternals.Continue the trail along a gorge towards the coast and we'll reach the wave washed Ajuy. This remote village is famed for its sea caves, which you'll get time to explore along with its black volcanic beaches. Stroll along the shore at El Jurado and treat your feet to a dip in the refreshing water of the Atlantic. We'll tuck into a well-deserved picnic before heading back.

Then discover the village of Pajara, famed for its unusual church façade and its wooden balconies. Fran says, "The inspiration behind the parish church's Aztec-themed portico remains a mystery. Just above the door, you'll see symbols of suns, serpents, lions and doves. And if you stop and take a closer look, you'll find many more."Plus, there's free time in Ajuy, a fishing village that meets the ocean at a black volcanic sand beach. There's a lovely, scenic walk on chalk cliffs to limestone caves where smugglers once hid their contraband. Nestled in a valley dotted with palm trees is Betancuria, the island's first capital. Here, you'll have free time to explore the cobbled streets and its church – the oldest in the Canaries. After lunch in a family-run restaurant in Valle de Santa Ines, there's a visit to a farm. Sample majorero goat cheese, jams and other local specialities. A tasty way to round off the day.
